- Component video (RGB/ YPbPr) is a signal that has been separated into 3 constituent components red green and blue. Hence this is the reason why this cable has red green and blue connectors attached to them. Each constituent part of the cable is stored as 3 separate signals. This stops each video signal interfering with another so a purer signal is achieved. This is contrasted to composite video connections such as coaxial aerial cables when only one signal is used for sound and all parts of the picture. Therefore component video is the highest quality way an analogue picture can be transferred. Some analysts think it could even be better than HDMI connections.
